Unit 5 was a focus piece on joints and how they can be manipulated. Now in my fifth unit, working with wood was becoming more and more familiar, as every new unit was becoming seemingly more and more difficult, as I tested and pushed the ways in which the wood could be cut and re-assembled.
This work didn’t go quite as planned. After spending hours and hours getting the oblique joints clean and precise I had no idea the wood could naturally warp.
The original idea for exhibition ‘Parallels’ was to have the work hanging from the celling. But due to many of the struts being warped, this could not be the case. As a result I decided to work with the space, and experiment with the layout and use this particular unit as a learning curve in my experience working with wood as a medium.
