Unit 6 – 43m
(Public Art Project)
A repetitive system pattern and complex rules had become the basis of how this piece of work came to be developed and created. This was only realised when I was taken out of the comfort of the studio or gallery space, and was given a brief to create work in the public domain.
A set of strict rules were developed to help maintain the consistency of the work:
. Only use the materials you own
. Only take what you can physically carry – a hod can be used to aid this, but it must not be so heavy that you are unable to carry it yourself
. 4 works will be made on site
– 3 without the assistance of a power tool
– 1 with the assistance of a power tool and screws
. If the hod falls apart en route the works must be made in that particular place
. No longer than 2 hours and no less than 1 hour will be spent on the chosen site.
. The work will be made so as to compliment the public space, i.e. not blocking public access to the area around the work.
. No remains of the work will be left behind
. The route to the site must be different to the route coming back.
